Standard safety equipment includes dual airbags, an anti-lock brake system (ABS), traction control, and child safety locks (sedan only). The high-powered M3 sports a 3.2-liter DOHC 240-horsepower 6-cylinder engine teamed with a 5-speed manual transmission. To add to its performance level, the M3 is equipped with a sport suspension, front and rear stabilizer bars, 4-wheel ventilated disc brakes, and 17-inch speed-rated tires. Other standard features include sport seats, heated power mirrors, leather trim, automatic climate control, a 200-watt AM/FM stereo cassette, power windows and door locks, and cast alloy wheels. |

1998 BMW 5-Series is available in four trims: 528i, 540iA, 540i, and 540i Protection. Standard safety features include dual front airbags, dual side airbags, an anti-lock brake system (ABS), and an impact sensor that automatically unlocks doors and turns on interior lights and hazard flashers after a serious accident. A 2.8-liter DOHC in-line 6-cylinder engine powers the 528i, while the 540 trims receive a 4.4-liter 32-valve V8. Standard features on the 528i include All Season Traction, 10-way power front seats, an onboard computer, power windows and door locks, a power sunroof, and a 200-watt AM/FM stereo cassette system. Both 540 trims add a leather interior, walnut trim, sport suspension and an automatic ventilation system. The 540iA has a 5-speed automatic transmission and 16-inch alloy wheels; the 540i has a 6-speed manual transmission, 17-inch alloy wheels, and accelerates from zero to 60 mph in about 6 seconds. The 540i Protection features rear side airbags, armored body panels, fixed rear windows, security glass, and a special driver training course for the buyer.
